EDITORIAL

The purpose of LET’S MAKE PLASTIC GREAT AGAIN  is to address the issues with plastic in a positive way and thus proposing solutions without neglecting the problem. Plastic is a problem, but is already there, and it will be present forever - so instead of going around the problem, we go with it and through it. Through the content of our publication we tried to increase the value of plastic that is already produced and present it as the material of the future. We wanted to make people (the readers) aware that as designers we have responsibility and power to reuse existing materials in a meaningful and creative way. The magazine is full of interesting design interventions (a bill, that is actually an index and can be used as a bookmark as well; typo postcards; plasticarium (a plastic herbarium), playful advertisements for ethical fashion, a DIY section that can be cut out etc.).
The magazine is full of interesting design interventions (a bill, that is actually an index and can be used as a bookmark as well; postcards with typography that we created by ourselves; plasticarium, a plastic herbarium, playful advertisements for ethical fashion, a DIY section that can be cut out etc.).

The publication is printed in riso and is 98% recyclable. It was made during my Erasmus+ student exchange in collaboration with Marianna Pawłusiów, Maša Pušnnik, Lucie Faures and Thamara Hidalgo.

Still I Rise” is a booklett about Women fighting for their rights through the decades. It is dedicated to Maya Angelou’s poem “Still I Rise”.

[EM-POU-ER] is an excerpt from possible series based around the women rights and the feminist movements in Latin America. Each issue from the magazine will take a look at a particular topic related to the women rights and a chosen country/area where there are problems related to the theme at hand. We explored areas related to how women are involved in equality uprisings in the past and right through to this very day. Also some first hand accounts from females who were part of such uprisings. We also covered how the internet is now a major part to play in revolutions, how a video that is going viral can have a big impact on the situation and be a great tool to spread the message.

For the title of our magazine we chose the transcription of the word EMPOWER- [em-pou-er].

It is a reference to how women win their rights. They must say it out loud in order for something they want to happen, so our title might not make sense at first glance but once you say it out loud then it becomes clear. We want to have the same principles apply here.

This is a group project that I’ve made with Mariana Correia, Catarina Martins and Scott Hall during my Erasmus+ exchange in Belas- Artes ULisboa in Lisbon, Portugal.

This is the poster that comes with the magazine. It is also playing the role of it’s package. Printed on cotton fabric and then sprayed with a stencil because of the idea for a hand-made protest poster.
